Over the past 12 years, 505 students from roughly 60 high schools have braved the unknown and taken on the challenge of SLI. These students were all accepted into SLI on the recommendations of their teachers and/or guidance counselors and represented the top 10 to 15 percent of their rising senor class. Those students chosen for SLI from the pool of applicants not only excel academically, but also take on the added responsibility of leadership roles in their schools, churches, and communities.

SLI alumni have:

• served as student council representatives
• been president – vice present of his/her Student Council
• been president – vice president of their senior class
• been members of the National Honor Society
• been members of the National Beta Club
• been Girl Scouts / Eagle Scouts
• been officers in their school's ROTC units
• worked on their school's yearbook or newspaper staff
• been active in orchestra, theater, band, or chorus
• participated in intramural sports and other competitive sports
